SUMMARY

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have shared for a long time that many mainstream mental health services do not feel culturally safe. This has affected trust, access, healing and wellbeing. This community-led project brought together 37 Aboriginal people from across Western Australia, including Elders, community members, mental health workers, carers and people with lived experience, to decide what cultural safety should look like and how services must change. This project was guided by Aboriginal leadership and cultural governance.
It honoured lived experience, community knowledge and cultural authority.
